How big is Naxos and what are the walks like?
Naxos is the biggest of the Cycladic Islands (450 km2) steeped in history and mythology. We walk by many ancient monu¬ments and interesting remains of their rich past. Naxos was also the home of the Greek God, Dionysus. We will walk on long golden beaches, flat fertile fields with rugged hilly land and white mountain villages. We walk mainly down/seaward. The highest mountain is “Zas” with 1004m of altitude. The po¬pulation is about 20,000 people of which about 4,000 live on the island’s capital Naxos, a small but comfortable place with a long promenade and spectacular sunsets, ancient ruins and narrow streets where many tavernas and shops are to be discovered. We walk over four days and the temperature is between 20/25 degrees. The walks each day are approx. 4- 5 hours with breaks for coffee, lunch and even a swim.
Do ARC have a guide?
Yes, as safety first is top of ARC’s list of priorities, all our challenges come with guides
